Filming interviews: the value is in how the session is planned

Two hours of camera can give you one piece or fifteen. It depends on whether the brief listed the blocks before anyone sat down in front of the lens.

LITE plan free forever, with automatic tagging of the material.

Who this page is for

This page explains how a video interview gets made and why a session's yield depends almost entirely on the preparation. It is the format that carries thought leadership, testimonials, internal comms and much of the corporate work, and it is also the one that wastes the most material. Play has two pieces that work separately or together: Play Platform, where what gets filmed stays transcribed, tagged and ready to cut down; and PLAY /Services, which plans the session in blocks and shoots with local talent. You can start free with the platform alone.

Why an interview yields less than it could

Almost everything is decided before the camera goes on, and almost never is.

It gets filmed without knowing how many pieces are needed

An interview is requested for one specific video. Afterwards somebody asks for social cutdowns, and there are none: the person never said those lines because nobody asked for them.

A brief in blocks, with the output pieces listed before the session.

The interviewee's diary does not come round twice

Lining up an executive or a customer takes weeks. If the session comes up short, there is no second chance and the piece gets cut from whatever there is.

A session planned to use up the available time with usable material.

Nobody can find the minute where they said that

Two hours of untranscribed rushes are two hours of reviewing every time somebody wants a cutdown. So the cutdown does not get made.

Automatic AI tagging, to locate the moment without reviewing the whole session.

The image release gets asked for afterwards

It gets filmed first and the permission gets thought about later, especially with customers. When the material is wanted for paid media, the doubt appears.

Releases and scope of use stored in the project, next to the material.

How an interview gets made with Play

Play is a Production-Tech company: software and a production team in the same house. With this format what pays off most is preparing well and storing well.

Way 1

Platform only

You film yourselves and use Play so the session stays transcribed, tagged and ready to cut down months later.

  • Briefs, tasks and a production calendar
  • Media library with AI tagging
  • Videofeedback and approvals by version
  • Unlimited external collaborators

Free on the LITE plan

See Play Platform
Way 2

Production only, as and when you need it

You commission the session, planned in blocks so it yields several pieces, on a fixed quote.

  • End-to-end production with an Account Manager
  • Creative, shooting and post-production
  • Local talent in whichever market it takes
  • A fixed quote per project

Per project, on a transparent rate card

See PLAY /Services
Way 3

Everything together, one partner

The platform is your interview archive and our team shoots wherever the interviewee is.

  • Everything in way 1 and way 2
  • Platform included at no cost with the services
  • Cost and status traceable in the same place
  • A flat production discount on the Enterprise plan

Platform included, production per project

Talk to the team

The three ways are doors into the same place, and you can move between them without migrating anything. Most teams start at way 1 or way 2 and end up at way 3 once the content volume grows.

What comes out of one interview

From a single session, if it is planned properly.

Pieces that come out of a well-prepared interview session.
PieceWhat it is forWhat it demands of the session
Main pieceThe website, a campaign or official communication.A complete narrative thread, with an opening and a close.
Social cutdownsSustaining presence for weeks off a single session.Answers that stand on their own, under a minute.
Customer testimonialSocial proof for sales and for the website.Questions about a specific result, not about general satisfaction.
Thought leadershipPositioning a person as a reference on a subject.Blocks by topic, each one filmable independently.
Internal trainingPassing the firm's judgement to every site.Explanations structured by module, with examples.
Statement archiveFeeding future pieces without having to call on anyone again.Transcription and tagging from the same day.

What you get from each part

What makes a session yield more than one piece.

Automatic AI tagging

What was filmed stays searchable, so finding the minute where something was said stops meaning reviewing the whole session.

A statement library

The rushes stay classified and available months later, to build new pieces without calling on anyone again.

Releases in the project

The permission and its scope of use live next to the material, which is what lets a statement go into paid media without hesitation.

Versions and approvals

The interviewee reviews by link, with an expiry, and their comments stay anchored to the second.

KAMI AI

It turns the objective into a question guide in blocks, with the output pieces listed before shooting.

Unlimited external collaborators

The interviewee, the agency and the editor join without taking a licence, on every plan including the free one.

A session planned in blocks

The guide is built so each answer works on its own, which is what multiplies the output pieces.

Shooting wherever the person is

Local talent in more than 20 countries, to film the customer or the executive without arranging a trip.

Post-production and subtitles

Edit, colour, sound and subtitles, with versions per language and per channel from the same recording.

Interview direction

Somebody who knows how to follow up. That is the difference between a correct answer and a usable one.

Brief to publication in four steps

The flow is the same whether you produce or we do. The only thing that changes is who carries out step 3.

  1. You say what you need

You open the project and describe the need. KAMI AI helps turn it into a structured brief, with formats, markets and dates, so that everyone is working from the same thing.

  2. You settle scope, cost and who does it

This is where you pick a way: your team produces it, your agency does, or PLAY /Services does with local talent. If you commission it from us, you get a fixed quote on a transparent rate card before anything starts.

  3. It gets produced and approved inside the platform

Shoot, edit and versions in the same project. Approvals happen through videofeedback and public links, with no email chains. If PLAY produces, your Account Manager oversees every stage.

  4. It is delivered, and it stays

The finished piece and the raw footage stay in your library, tagged and ready to reuse on the next campaign.

If you produce with us, the platform costs you nothing

Access to Play Platform is included at no cost with every PLAY video production service. In other words: you can come in through the platform door and pay only for the software, or come in through the production door and take the software with it.

Annual billing works out at 10 months. Extra storage at 29 €/TB per month. With interviews what pushes you to PRO is not the shoot but the archive: AI tagging is what turns hours of rushes into genuinely reusable material, and it arrives with the PRO plan. See the full plan comparison.

Frequently asked questions about filming interviews

How many pieces come out of one interview?

It depends how it is planned. A session prepared in blocks, with answers that stand on their own, can yield the main piece plus several social cutdowns and archive material. An unprepared session usually gives one piece.

How do I find the specific moment afterwards?

Through the library's automatic AI tagging, available from the PRO plan. The material stays searchable, so finding where something was said does not mean reviewing hours of rushes.

How long does a session take?

Usually between one and three hours of camera depending on the number of blocks. What sets the real timeline is normally the interviewee's diary rather than the production, which is why it is worth using the time they give you properly.

Can you film wherever the person is?

Yes. PLAY /Services activates local crews in more than 20 countries, so the interview is shot in the customer's or the executive's own city without arranging travel.

How is the image permission handled?

The release and its scope of use are stored on the project record, next to the material. That is what lets a statement go into paid media months later without reconstructing what was authorised.

Can the interviewee review before publication?

Yes, through an expiring review link. Their comments stay anchored to the second and the version, without giving them access to the rest of the workspace.

How do I start?

Open a free LITE workspace and write the next session's brief listing the pieces you want out of it. That list is what decides the questions.
