3D video production: the model is paid for once and used forever

Starting in 3D costs more than shooting. From there, every new angle, colour and version comes out almost free, and the product does not even have to exist.

LITE plan free forever. The 3D studio joins without taking a licence.

Who this page is for

3D lets you show something that does not exist yet, cannot be filmed, or would be extremely expensive to shoot: a product in development, an internal cutaway, an impossible scale. Its economics differ from the rest: modelling is the big line item and happens once, and from there rendering another angle, another colour or another version is cheap. Play has two pieces that work separately or together: Play Platform, where the model and its renders are stored as an asset; and PLAY /Services, which produces from concept to final render. You can start free with the platform alone.

What goes wrong on a 3D project

Almost always from treating the model as a campaign expense rather than an asset.

The model gets paid for and lost

The studio delivers the renders and keeps the model file. A year later, showing the same product in another colour means modelling it again and paying for it again.

The model and its textures stay in your library, with clear rights.

One more angle gets asked for once it is already rendered

Rendering is the slow part. Asking for three new shots at the end is not a tweak: it is relaunching hours of compute and reviewing them again.

Every shot and finish listed in the brief, so it renders once.

The finish does not look like the real product

Materials, highlights and proportions get validated late, on a low-quality render, and the final result does not match what manufacturing had in mind.

Finish approved on material tests before the final render.

The files are heavy and end up scattered

Models, textures and render sequences fill drives and travel by transfer. Finding the good version six months later is a hunt.

A library with 250 GB on the free plan and 1 TB on PRO, all tagged.

How 3D gets made with Play

Play is a Production-Tech company: software and a production team in the same house. In 3D what matters most is the asset staying with you.

Way 1

Platform only

Your studio models and you use Play to store models, textures and renders, and to approve finishes before the final render.

  • Briefs, tasks and a production calendar
  • Media library with AI tagging
  • Videofeedback and approvals by version
  • Unlimited external collaborators

Free on the LITE plan

See Play Platform
Way 2

Production only, as and when you need it

You commission the 3D piece, concept to render, with every shot and finish budgeted from the brief.

  • End-to-end production with an Account Manager
  • Creative, shooting and post-production
  • Local talent in whichever market it takes
  • A fixed quote per project

Per project, on a transparent rate card

See PLAY /Services
Way 3

Everything together, one partner

The platform is your 3D asset library and our team produces inside it, reusing models already made.

  • Everything in way 1 and way 2
  • Platform included at no cost with the services
  • Cost and status traceable in the same place
  • A flat production discount on the Enterprise plan

Platform included, production per project

Talk to the team

The three ways are doors into the same place, and you can move between them without migrating anything. Most teams start at way 1 or way 2 and end up at way 3 once the content volume grows.

What 3D is used for

The cases where there is no alternative, and those where it pays off even when there is.

Common uses of 3D and what it brings to each.
UseWhat it solvesWhy it fits
Product in developmentShowing and selling it before a physical unit exists. No prototype has to be built in order to communicate it.
Technical cutawayShowing the inside or the workings of a mechanism. The camera can pass through the object, which is impossible on a shoot.
Catalogue by variantEvery reference in a range, in every colour.Modelled once, each variant is a render rather than a shoot.
A perfect packshotA finish impossible to achieve in a studio.Absolute control of light, material and angle.
Impossible scalesThe microscopic, the enormous, or what cannot be visited. There is no physical or location constraint.
Architecture and spacesShowing a site or an installation before it is built. It lets you decide with the client on something that does not exist yet.

What you get from each part

What makes the model an asset rather than an expense that repeats.

Models and textures stored

The asset stays in your library, tagged, to render another angle or another variant without modelling again.

Storage for large files

250 GB on the free plan and 1 TB on PRO, with additional storage at 29 € per TB per month, which is what a render sequence asks for.

Finish approval by stage

Material tests and key shots approved before launching the final render, which is where the compute time goes.

Feedback on the frame

A badly resolved highlight or an odd proportion is marked on the exact render, not described in an email.

Versions per variant

Each colour, finish or angle is a version of the same piece, with its history, rather than a loose file.

Rights over the asset

Agreements and assignments are stored on the project record, including what you can do with the model.

Modelling and texturing

Building the asset to the level of detail the use requires, with reuse in mind from the start.

Render and look development

Materials, lighting and finish worked until the result looks like the real product.

Every shot from the brief

The angles and variants get listed before rendering, because asking for them at the end multiplies the compute time.

Full post-production

Compositing, colour, sound and motion over the render, plus versions per channel and language.

Brief to publication in four steps

The flow is the same whether you produce or we do. The only thing that changes is who carries out step 3.

  1. You say what you need

You open the project and describe the need. KAMI AI helps turn it into a structured brief, with formats, markets and dates, so that everyone is working from the same thing.

  2. You settle scope, cost and who does it

This is where you pick a way: your team produces it, your agency does, or PLAY /Services does with local talent. If you commission it from us, you get a fixed quote on a transparent rate card before anything starts.

  3. It gets produced and approved inside the platform

Shoot, edit and versions in the same project. Approvals happen through videofeedback and public links, with no email chains. If PLAY produces, your Account Manager oversees every stage.

  4. It is delivered, and it stays

The finished piece and the raw footage stay in your library, tagged and ready to reuse on the next campaign.

What it costs

The platform is paid per workspace. 3D is quoted per project, and it is worth separating what modelling costs from what rendering costs.

For a first model

LITE

0 €

  • Up to 3 internal users
  • Unlimited external collaborators
  • 250 GB of media

If you produce with us, the platform costs you nothing

Access to Play Platform is included at no cost with every PLAY video production service. In other words: you can come in through the platform door and pay only for the software, or come in through the production door and take the software with it.

Annual billing works out at 10 months. Extra storage at 29 €/TB per month. In 3D storage rules: models, textures and render sequences fill LITE quickly, so as soon as there is more than one product modelled PRO's terabyte stops being optional. See the full plan comparison.

Frequently asked questions about 3D video production

When is 3D worth it over shooting?

When the product does not exist yet, when the inside or an impossible scale has to be shown, or when many variants of the same reference are needed. If the product exists and a good-looking shot is enough, shooting is usually cheaper and faster.

What does a 3D video cost?

It is worth separating two line items: modelling, which is the big one and happens once, and rendering, which repeats per shot and per variant. It is quoted per project on a transparent rate card, and the second job on the same model costs far less.

Do I keep the model?

Yes, and that is the important part. The model and its textures stay in your workspace library, with the rights recorded on the project record, so another angle or another variant can be rendered later.

Can I ask for more shots afterwards?

You can, but rendering is the slow stage, so asking for three new angles at the end adds compute time and another review round. That is why the shots and variants get listed in the brief.

How do I make sure the finish looks like the real product?

By approving material tests and key shots before launching the final render. Validating on a low-quality render at the end is what causes the surprises.

How much space does a 3D project take?

Quite a lot: models, textures and render sequences fill the free plan's 250 GB quickly. With more than one product modelled, the PRO plan's terabyte is worth having, with additional storage at 29 € per TB per month.

How do I start?

Open a free LITE workspace and upload the models you already have, if you kept them. Seeing which assets already exist usually changes the budget for the next launch.
